Anti Ragging

ANTI RAGGING

P.S.Y Arts and Science College has adopted the ‘zero tolerance policy’ regarding any instances of Ragging on its Campus. No act of ragging, major or minor, will go unnoticed, and no ragger, male or female, student or non-student, will go unpunished.

Ragging is a form of bullying or hazing in educational institutions, particularly colleges and universities. It involves acts of violence, physical or psychological abuse, or humiliation inflicted on new or junior students by senior students. Ragging is illegal and considered a criminal offence in many countries. It is condemned by educational institutions and student organizations and is widely recognized as a serious problem that must be eradicated. Ragging in any form is strictly prohibited at P.S.Y Arts and Science College and will be dealt with seriously by the College authorities. In case of ragging, the student will be issued a Transfer Certificate immediately and a police complaint will be lodged to take suitable action as per the UGC Notification 2021.

ANTI-RAGGING GUIDELINES OF THIS INSTITUTION

Anti-ragging measures in this college aim to prevent and address the problem of ragging, which is a form of physical, mental or emotional abuse of new students by senior students. These measures include:

  • Clear anti-ragging policies and laws with severe punishments for violators.
  • Regular sensitization and awareness campaigns for students, teachers and staff.
  • An anonymous reporting mechanism for students to report incidences of ragging.
  • Prompt and impartial investigations of reported cases of ragging.
  • Provision of support and counselling for victims of ragging.
  • Taking solid and effective anti-ragging measures to create a safe and supportive environment for all students.

In concurrence with the regulations on curbing the Menace of Ragging in Higher Educational Institutions by UGC, India: ‘UGC Regulation on Curbing the Menace of Ragging in Higher Educational Institutions 2009’ this institution is determined to act accordingly.

Anti-Ragging Squad

Anti-Ragging Squad is constituted consisting of faculties from various departments to help Anti-Ragging Committee and students. The members are nominated by the Principal for a maximum period of one year subject to the condition that they should not misuse the system and should not take undue advantage of it. They should cooperate with Anti-Ragging Committee and Principal. If found any violation, either the squad members will be revised or the squad itself shall be dissolved.

  • The Squad shall keep a vigil on ragging incidents taking place in the community and undertake patrolling functions.
  • Students may note that the Squad is active and alert at all times and is empowered to inspect places of potential ragging and also make surprise raids in classrooms, the canteen and other hotspots in the College.
  • The Squad can investigate incidents of ragging and make recommendations to the Anti-Ragging Committee.
  • If there is any complaint on ragging, it will be referred to the college Anti-ragging committee which will inquire into the alleged violation and accordingly suggest the action to be taken against the said student in consultation with the Principal. The Anti-Ragging Squad by itself should not take any decision in this matter.

RAGGING REDRESSAL

P.S.Y Arts and Science College is committed to abiding by all rules and regulations issued from time to time by the UGC and other higher authorities. The primary goal of the Anti-Ragging committee is to make the college a "ragging-free" institution and to create an environment where newcomers may easily adapt to any changes that college life may require of them and mature alongside their more seasoned peers. Students who disobey this directive will be dealt with harshly by the College. Ragging or attempted ragging on or outside the College Campus should be reported to the Anti-Ragging Committee. The college will take all necessary and required steps to achieve the goal of eliminating ragging, both inside and outside the college, and will not permit or condone any occurrence of ragging in any form.
